About Us

The “I Can Afford College” campaign is a statewide, financial aid awareness initiative sponsored by the California Community Colleges.  The campaign got its start back in 2004 shortly after enrollment fees were increased. The governor and the state legislature wanted to make sure Californians knew how to make college affordable, so they set aside money to create an awareness campaign about financial aid.

The “I Can Afford College” campaign is funded by the State of California, through Proposition 98. This website is one of the main elements of the campaign. Since the site was launched, it has received more than four million visits. Additionally, the number of community college students who receive some type of financial aid has gone up by nearly 54 percent since 2004.
