Black College Expo Student Athlete Symposium

The Black College Expo Student Athlete Symposium drew nearly 1,500 attendees from schools across northern California, many who had a specific interest in college sports. The “I Can Afford College” campaign joined close to 30 exhibitors at the event, including colleges from across the nation, athletic departments from specific universities, and a variety of educational resource organizations. Visitors to the “I Can” booth were able to learn more about the campaign’s resources, and get valuable information about applying for financial aid for college.

San Diego National College Fair

Throughout the year, the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) holds 55 college fairs in 30 states, including five locations in California. The conferences provide parents and students the opportunity to meet one-on-one with representatives from colleges and universities to discuss admission and financial aid opportunities at their respective institutions. During the San Diego conference, more than 1,500 students and parents visited the “I Can Afford College” booth to learn more about the campaign, attending a California community college, and applying for financial aid.

Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project’s Sacramento Leadership Conference

The “I Can Afford College” campaign joined the Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project (CLYLP) at its annual Sacramento Leadership Conference College Fair, held in Sacramento. Information on the “I Can” campaign, and finding and applying for financial aid for college, was shared with attendees visiting our booth and during the event’s two main workshops. The campaign interacted with more than 120 high school students from throughout the state of California who were participating in the week-long, intensive leadership training program.
